📆 Day 1 | 24 May
📆 Day 1 | 24 May
📍Route: 🚆Grenoble -> Geneva🚲-> Maladaire Campground (La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland)Â
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 90 km
At 7:00 AM we departed from home. We took Grenoble-Geneva train and by 10:00 we started to cycle. We started in Geneva and cycled to Maladaire Campground (Camping de la Maladaire), covering a distance of 90 km.
The weather was nice and all day we were impressed by the stunning views of Lake Leman. We stopped for lunch around 13:00 and continued biking to Lausanne where we visited the Olympic Museum.Â
📆 Day 2 | 25 May
📍Route: Maladaire Campground (La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland) -> Chens-sur-Léman, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 77 km
We started the day by packing up our things and getting everything ready at the campsite. After organizing our gear, we left the campground and headed towards Montreaux, the place of the famous jazz festival.
We passed into France and observed that the bike route is not well marked as in Switzerland and also that for many kilometres we were sharing the road with the cars without having a bike road marked on the road.
📆 Day 3 | 26 May
📍Route: Chens-sur-Léman -> Bassy, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 82 km
The day started off rough: we woke up with wet tents after spending the night in a less-than-ideal spot. We reached Geneva quite quickly and enjoyed the last 10 km going downhill the whole time. We ate breakfast in the park and continued towards France again.
Sadly, before exiting Geneva, Dan didn’t see a curb and had a serious fall from the bike.
📆 Day 4 | 27 May
📍Route: Bassy -> Arandon-Passins, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 106 km
We started slowly in the morning, with a stop for breakfast in Seysell, and later we made another stop at an Aldi supermarket in Belley to stock up on some food and supplies. These small breaks helped us regain energy during a challenging day.
This day wasn’t easy. Bernardo fell and got a minor swelling on his hand. We also lost track of Dan a few times, which caused some stress and made us realize how important it is to stay together during the journey.
📆 Day 5 | 28 May
📍Route: Arandon-Passins -> Vaulx-en-Velin, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 87 km
We started the day by packing up our things and setting off in the direction of Lagnieu, where we had our morning coffee.
In total, we rode 87 kilometers today. It was one of the most scenic routes so far — we passed through breathtaking landscapes and beautiful, peaceful areas that made the journey truly enjoyable. The only real challenge was the uphill sections, but today they were not too many. We supported and motivated each other, which helped us get through them.
📆 Day 6 | 29 May
📍Route: Vaulx-en-Velin -> Sablon, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 95 km
We set off towards Lyon after a good night’s sleep at a great camping spot. The first stop we made was at a huge flea market right at the entrance to Lyon. In Lyon we again enjoyed a delicious breakfast before visiting the city. Lyon is a very bike friendly city, and the route among the Rhone is spectacular - one of the best segments so far.Â
The afternoon was very hot and quite tiring, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Midway through the ride, we found plenty of cherry and ate like pigs. We also found onion for dinner. This part of France is very good in agriculture.
📆 Day 7 | 30 May
📍Route: Sablon -> Cruas, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 113 km
We started our day near Sablons and cycled all the way to Cruas, covering a total of 113 kilometers — one of our longest and most intense days so far.
Along the way, we passed through the city of Valence, where we visited a Lidl to restock food and explored a few parks. However, the general atmosphere in the city didn’t feel very welcoming or comfortable, so we didn’t stay long.
📆 Day 8 | 31 May
📍Route: Cruas -> Sorgues, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 107 km
Today marked another milestone in our journey — we rode 107 kilometers, from Cruas to just outside Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It was a demanding day in terms of distance, but we enjoyed the Provence landscapes.
Our first proper stop was at an Intermarché, where we grabbed breakfast and picked up a few supplies. It was a simple but much-needed break that gave us a boost for the long ride ahead.
📆 Day 9 | 1 June
📍Route: Sorgues -> Arles, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 82 km
We woke up and without much ceremony we started towards Avignon which we reached after about an hour. The days have been getting increasingly hotter, making cycling more and more difficult.Â
After visiting Avignon, we crossed the river by boat to the other side and continued riding towards Arles under the late afternoon heat.Â
📆 Day 10 | 2 June
📍Route: Arles -> Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 54 km
We began the day in Arles and cycled 54 kilometers until reaching Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. Although we didn’t visit any specific landmarks the route along the canal was scenic. The highlight of the day was a wonderful afternoon spent at the beach. The weather was perfect, and the sea provided a well-deserved break and a moment of pure enjoyment after the long ride.
We camped at the outskirts of the beach.Â
📆 Day 11 | 3 June
📍Route: Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône -> Arles, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 41 km
We woke up this morning on Praia da Olga, in Port-Saint-Louis, with the sound of the waves and a fresh sea breeze to start the day. After packing our things, we got back on the bikes and set off for what turned out to be a more relaxed but memorable day.
We rode a total of 41 kilometers, staying in the area of Port-Saint-Louis. Our first stop was Praia do NapoleĂŁo, where we took some time to enjoy the sun and the view.
📆 Day 12 | 4 June
📍Route: Arles -> Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 58 km
We woke up in an unpleasant spot, with strong winds shaking the tents in every direction. We set off, but things didn’t start well — we couldn’t find the right path and ended up going through rough terrain and private property. Luckily, a man passed by and gave us the correct directions.Â
We departed Salin de Giraud an visited a very large part of the Camargue Regional Nature Park on our way to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
📆 Day 13 | 5 June
📍Route: Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze -> Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 53 km
We cycled 53 kilometres from near Montcalm to the outskirts of Montpelier.
We stopped in Aigues-Mortes to visit the auto museum and interview the owner, Mr. Albert Rene. Then we made a quick stop at Les salins du midi but we already visited many salt fields so we didn’t need another salt visit. We left Aigues-Mortes and headed to Le Grau-du-Roi where we interviewed the local tourism office representative.
📆 Day 14 | 6 June
📍Route: Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone -> Sète, France
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 91 km
I woke up by the sound of waves and enjoyed the morning breeze. I packed up the tent and started to bike. First I stopped at the Domaine des Moures, where I arrived by mistake. I turned back and biked among the channel till Station Balnéaire de Frontignan-Plage. Here I took a bath in the sea and had a huge lunge of mules. In the afternoon I continued biking through Frontignan, to Sète, a lovely harbour town.
📆 Day 15 | 7 June
📍Route: 🚲Sète -> Montpellier -> 🚆Grenoble
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 45 km
This was the second morning when the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was the sea. What a great view. I packed the tent and prepared the bike and started to paddle towards Montpellier.Â
I arrived here without any difficulty after biking the last 45 km of this expedition. In total we biked 1165 in 15 days, with an average of 77,66 km/day. Definitely not bad.
