Operation Hook II is a Small Scale Collaborative Partnership in Sport, where a diverse group of like-minded individuals and organizations join forces to create a positive impact on the world of sport through shared goals, cooperative efforts, and a commitment to fostering inclusivity.
Operation Hook II aimed to create the capacity for all the organizations involved to engage more young participants, specially the ones facing fewer opportunities in Via Ferrata and use it as a tool for social inclusion. The project brought together 300 participants across 30 events in 13 locations within five countries, combining international safety training and inclusive local via ferrata adventures that showcased the sport’s ability to inspire, unite, and transform communities.
Safety First: Building Preparedness in the Heart of Nature
The program, held between June 2–7, 2023, in Skalka, Slovakia, was more than a physical challenge; it was a journey towards enhancing safety awareness and emergency response capabilities. The initial days of the training were dedicated to comprehensive First Aid sessions, equipping participants with critical life-saving skills. From basic wound care to CPR, the hands-on approach ensured practical mastery, preparing them to act decisively in emergencies.
The adventure then transitioned into technical skill-building, where participants learned to ascend and descend using a Prusik loop on a cable rope. This training reinforced not only individual safety but also self-reliance, bolstering their ability to respond effectively in unforeseen situations.
As the program progressed, participants acquired expertise in emergency self-rappelling techniques, honing the precision and control needed for safe descents in challenging environments. This critical skill emphasized the importance of preparedness and adaptability in the face of potential hazards.
Through this unique combination of practical safety education and adventure, the project fostered confidence, resilience, and an enduring commitment to safety. It highlighted how shared learning experiences in natural settings can leave participants better equipped to navigate both personal and collective challenges.
We are excited about introducing more young enthusiasts to via Ferrata for the first time and maintaining a connection with those who have already embraced its thrill. If you're keen on joining our upcoming via Ferrata event, express your interest by completing the following form. 👇
