Winter Tradition | Floorball
Every year, when the holidays roll around, our team has a fun tradition: we celebrate with a Christmas party—and that always includes a game of floorball. It’s our way of staying active, having a laugh, and enjoying some friendly competition together before the end-of-year celebrations.
For those unfamiliar, floorball is a fast-paced indoor team sport, similar to hockey but played without ice. Here’s a quick rundown of the rules we follow:
Teams: Usually 5 field players plus a goalkeeper per side.
Objective: Score by getting the ball into the opponent’s goal using the stick.
Playing area: Typically a gym or indoor court.
Ball: A lightweight plastic ball with holes.
Contact: Minimal—no body checking allowed.
Game length: Often played in 3 periods or two halves, depending on the group.
Penalties: Stick infractions, tripping, or rough play result in short-term penalties or free hits.
The games are always full of energy, a bit chaotic, and full of laughter—sometimes even more memorable than the food or gifts! Over the years, it’s become one of the highlights of our Christmas party, and a tradition we look forward to every holiday season.
