🏰 Places visited: City of Târgu Jiu, Brâncuși’s famous works — The Table of Silence, The Gate of the Kiss, and The Endless Column

We woke up rested and feeling better, but we still weren’t ready for the big effort that sticking to the plan would have meant — riding through the Jiu Gorge all the way to Târgu Jiu. So, we decided to take the train and save our energy. Cycling uphill through the gorge to the city would’ve been too tough and might have undone the recovery we’d worked for.

The train ride was smooth, and from the window we admired the spectacular views of the gorge. Once in Târgu Jiu, we hopped on our bikes and explored the city. We couldn’t miss Brâncuși’s famous works — The Table of Silence, The Gate of the Kiss, and The Endless Column. From there, we biked through the park, enjoyed some ice cream, and rode about 10 km through the city to reach the Jiului Delta.

Here, the temperatures are much higher and the sun feels stronger than in the mountains. Not far from the delta, we found a camping spot. It wasn’t the perfect place, but it was already late, and the view was simply too good to pass up. We watched the sunset paint the sky, then headed to our tents for the night.
