The first night of camping went well. None of us slept very soundly, though, as we could hear dogs barking all night long. Thankfully, no bears made an appearance. At 7 a.m., we crawled out of our tents, made some coffee, and began packing up our gear to start biking.
We had to cross the river again to reach the road, but this time it went even more smoothly than the previous evening.
We began the day cycling uphill â not an easy task â but once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a fantastic view of the village below. The sky was cloudy from the start, but it wasnât until we got to Martinis that the first raindrops began to fall. We decided to take a break and grab something to eat, hoping the rain would pass quickly.
Unfortunately, nature had other plans. The rain grew heavier, and soon huge drops turned into little streams running down the streets. We waited for over an hour, hoping the weather would improve, but it didnât. So we packed everything into plastic bags, did our best to protect our gear from the rain, and continued our way.
Cycling in the rain turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience. It wasnât something we did before, and we were grateful not to be overheating. Our raincoats didnât hold up very well against the downpour, but thankfully our belongings stayed dry.
We eventually made it to Cristuru Secuiesc, while it was still raining. Just before reaching the town, we found a dedicated cycling path from Feliceni to Cristuru Secuiesc â only a few kilometers long and still under construction in some parts, but helpful nonetheless.
Because of the rain, we didnât stop to visit much around the town, which was a pity. But in return, we got to experience nature in a different light â soaked in water. Everything around us was green, the forests and fields breathing with a quiet freshness. It felt like we were cycling through a living painting.Â
In Cristuru Secuiesc, we stopped for lunch and waited, hoping the rain would finally stop. It did â for about half an hour â and we took advantage of the break to head towards SighiČoara.
By the time we arrived, the rain had returned in full force. We made the decision not to camp outside and instead booked a room so we could dry our gear and warm up. Tomorrowâs forecast promises more of the same, so weâre preparing for another wet day.
Despite the conditions, we made solid progress. When we arrived in Cristuru Secuiesc, morale was a bit low â being wet for hours took its toll. But after changing into dry clothes, warming up, and enjoying some hot soup, everyoneâs spirits lifted. The team dynamic was great throughout the day, and weâre proud of how we handled the challenges.
