We started the day with a nice breakfast at SĂłstĂł, enjoying a slow morning before heading off. Afterward, we explored the area a little and discovered a lovely educational path that gave us a glimpse into the local nature and history of SĂłstĂł. It was a gentle and grounding start before getting back on the road.
The ride itself, however, wasn’t entirely without complications. About halfway through, the gear cable on Zsolt’s bike loosened up. Fortunately, we found a bicycle repair shop in Balatonkenese, just over the main road and right across from a resting point. We spent about an hour and a half there while they fixed the cable and also checked the brakes. By the time everything was sorted and we were back on the bikes, the heat had set in—relentless and heavy.
With the temperature rising to around 40°C, it became clear that pushing on wouldn’t be wise. We agreed to stop at the next campsite and were relieved to find Balaton Center Kemping in Balatonfűzfő. It’s a small, cozy, and quiet spot with a beautiful deck that offered us the perfect view of an amazing sunset.
Because the heat was so unbearable, we headed to the beach for a refreshing splash in Lake Balaton. Floating in the cool water felt like the perfect antidote to the exhausting day. Still, the heat has been draining, and we’re both feeling the toll it’s taken on our energy.
A challenging day, but one that ended with calm waters, a glowing sky, and a sense of relief.
