Today was… well, let’s just say it wasn’t our best day.
Last night, after fighting our way through what felt like millions of insects to reach our tents, we thought we’d finally get a peaceful night by the water. But apparently, the beautiful waterfront campsite comes with a catch: fishermen. Around 1:00 a.m., a group arrived for night fishing right on the pier near us. They were loud enough to keep us awake until sunrise, when they finally packed up and left. So, our day started with almost no sleep.
As if that wasn’t enough, things went downhill quickly. Not long into the ride, Erzsike got a flat tire—courtesy of a stubborn flower spike that pierced right through. We had to stop and change it before moving on. Then, Erzsike’s preexisting wrist and cervical spine issues decided to join the party, giving us constant discomfort for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team was in top form, even teasing Erzsike about riding too slowly. Sometimes they surged ahead, then stopped to wait for her to catch up. At the halfway point, we stopped at a bike service shop because Erzsike’s bike brakes had developed a loud squeak, but they couldn’t fix it.
By the time we rolled into Rév Kemping Szántód this evening, we could safely say—it really wasn’t our day. But hey, that’s bikepacking: some days are magic, others are just part of the story. Hopefully, tomorrow will be kinder.
