đ Day 3 | 13 August
đRoute: BalatonberĂ©ny â BalatonboglĂĄr Â
đŽââïž Distance cycled: 29 km
đ° Places visited: FonyĂłd Marina
We set off this morning from BalatonberĂ©ny, ready for another stretch of our Balaton ride. The weather was already hotâ32°Câand the lake shimmered in the sun. The road was smooth, but the strong front wind blowing from the lake made sure we earned every kilometer.
Our first real pause was at FonyĂłd Marina, where we took in the sight of sailboats swaying lazily and enjoyed the shade. From there, we rolled along the lakeside pathway in FonyĂłd, a beautiful ride despite the wind, and continued on the ĂrpĂĄd part, with the lake always just beside us.
By afternoon, we reached BalatonboglĂĄr and went on the hunt for a place to stay. We found SellĆ Kemping, and luck was on our sideâno reservation, nearly full, and yet they had one spot left just for us. The staff even said we were lucky, which I took as a good omen since we havenât booked anything ahead for the rest of the trip either. Fingers crossed!
We wandered around for food afterward. There are plenty of shops nearby, and even a bistro right on the campsite. Conveniently, thereâs also a bike repair shop not far away on DĂłzsa György Street (Road 7)âjust after crossing the railroad on the right.
The evening, however, brought an unexpected challenge: a cloud of tiny greyish insectsâmillions of themâswarming the campsite. They donât sting, but they donât care about insect repellent either. We spent a good part of the night waving them away.
The day ended with a spectacular sunset over Lake Balaton, the sky glowing in shades of gold, orange, and pink. Despite the wind and the bugs, it was a perfect finish.
