📆 Day 2 | 12 August
📍Route: Balatonberény → Vörs → Fekete István Memorial house → Balatonberény
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 22 km
🏰 Places visited: Fekete István Memorial House
Today’s ride turned out to be a proper adventure, complete with beautiful scenery, local flavors, and just enough tech trouble to keep things interesting.Â
We set out in the morning with the goal of visiting the Fekete István Memorial House, which sits like a quiet guardian of literary history. The ride there was pleasant, though the GPS seemed determined to add some “mystery” to our route — the biking app refused to load properly, and we had to rely on old-fashioned navigation skills and a fair bit of guesswork.Â
From there, we rolled into BalatonberĂ©ny, following the BalatonBike 365 route. This stretch is a paradise for cyclists — we passed numerous bikers resting places, each with benches, shade, and spots to refill water bottles. We stopped at the main bikers’ resting place and service point in BalatonberĂ©ny called TekergĹ‘, which was well-equipped and buzzing with other riders swapping stories and checking their gears.Â
Lunch was a highlight — we stopped at János Pince and enjoyed local cuisine that tasted like it came straight from the heart of the Balaton region. Fresh, hearty, and exactly what we needed to refuel.Â
In the afternoon, we made our way back to KĂłcsag Camping, our home for the 2 nights. The campsite sits close to the water, with enough space for bikes and tents alike. After setting up camp, we relaxed by the lake.Â
It wasn’t the smoothest ride from a tech standpoint, but that only made the day feel more adventurous. Between history, nature, and good food, it was a tour worth remembering — GPS or no GPS.Â
