📆 Day 11 | 21 August
📍Route: Révfülöp → Badacsonyörs → Badacsonytomaj → Badacsony
🚴‍♀️ Distance cycled: 31,3 km
🏰 Places visited: Folly Arboretum’s viewpoint
This morning we aimed to leave as early as possible, hoping to stay ahead of the rain. After packing up our things at Napfény Camping in the magical town of Révfülöp, our plan was to be on the road before 10 a.m. In the end, though, it was exactly around 10 when we finally set off.
Only a few kilometers into our ride, the rain caught up with us. At first it came gently, almost refreshing, but soon it thickened and forced us into our raincoats. Even so, we pushed on, pedaling steadily through the showers. We made a few short stops along the way, but the rain showed no sign of letting up.
By the time we reached Badacsony, our focus turned to finding a place to stay. We checked into the Badacsony Campsite, still under the drizzle, but as luck would have it, the rain finally began to ease once we were settled. Rather than pitching our tents right away, we decided to seize the moment and explore the lakeside and the surrounding area.
We made our way to the Folly Arboretum’s viewpoint, and the descent from there was pure magic — a winding journey with breathtaking views across Lake Balaton. Although the climb up was tough, legs burning with every pedal and sometimes just pushing the bike the scenery along the way down repaid our efforts tenfold. Afterwards, we wandered through the Arboretum itself. The air was rich with the scent of plants and herbs, lavender above all, enveloping us in its calming fragrance. The Arboretum’s winery added to the charm, a perfect blend of nature and tradition.
Later, hunger led us to a local restaurant, where we indulged in freshly prepared fish dishes from the region — a meal that felt both hearty and rooted in the spirit of Balaton.
Evening brought a quieter rhythm. With the rain still lingering, and forecasts saying it will continue until tomorrow morning, we finally had the chance to rest and let the day’s ride settle into memory. Wet roads, tough climbs, and hidden rewards — it was a day that reminded us why this journey is so special.
