During the period of 8–14 June 2025, ARAO had the pleasure of participating, as a partner organization, in the international youth exchange Make the World Green Again, held in Mezőberény, Hungary.
The project aimed to promote environmentally friendly behavior, a sustainable lifestyle, and intercultural collaboration. ARAO sent a team of 11 young people from Miercurea Ciuc, accompanied by 2 group leaders, who proudly represented Romania in this green initiative.
The exchange brought together 50 participants from Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Our young participants took part in a variety of activities dedicated to environmental protection: practical workshops on waste reduction, recycling, zero-waste principles, as well as outdoor exercises designed to encourage responsibility toward nature. One of the unique moments of the project was the creation of the “Green Museum,” made entirely from materials collected during the cleanup actions.
Throughout the week, the Romanian participants collaborated with young people from the other countries to identify environmental challenges specific to each region and to design mini ecological campaigns. One day was dedicated to the theme of active citizenship, during which the teams developed action plans for their communities and carried out a large-scale cleanup activity in Mezőberény. The program also included a visit to Békéscsaba, where participants discovered local examples of good practices in sustainability.
In the evenings, the atmosphere turned into a celebration of cultural diversity. The ARAO youth presented authentic elements of Romanian and Székely culture—from traditional snacks to music and customs—contributing to the charm of the intercultural evenings and strengthening the bonds between participants.
The project had a visible impact both on the host community and on our young participants. The cleanup activities drew the attention of local residents to the importance of protecting the environment, and the action plans created during the exchange generated valuable ideas for future initiatives.
Upon returning home, the young people from Ciuc came back with a rich set of experiences, enhanced collaboration and leadership skills, and a strong motivation to continue promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle in their community. For ARAO, participating in Make the World Green Again represented yet another important step in supporting non-formal education and the active involvement of young people in European projects with real impact.
